There are proportionately more and more 4x4 vehicles on the roads of the UK (not necessarily off them) than there were a few years ago. The extra seating capacity of larger 4x4 vehicles, the added feeling of security, the cachet and the capacity for towing and going off-road in 4x4 vehicles has led to more 4x4 vehicles being sold. There is quite a range in sizes of 4x4 vehicles available now. The smallest are Fiat Panda size, which are just normal city cars with limited off road capability. As a rule you will not be able to drive a 4x4 rental vehicle off road, but you will enjoy the benefits of driving a 4x4.
